Invacare Wheelchairs

For someone facing the need for a well-built wheelchair, it is important to find one that will prove to be durable, economical, safe, and we'll meet the individual needs of the user. This is especially important in the case where the purchase of a wheelchair is only partially covered by insurance, or not covered at all. In looking for these features, the manufacturer of Invacare wheelchairs comes to the forefront. Invacare’s chairs are sold under the categories of IVC manual wheelchairs, custom manual wheelchairs, top end sports, recreation products, and power wheelchairs.

Invacare specializes in both manual and power chairs, as well as providing more specialized ones like those used in racing, pediatric wheelchairs, and those that are custom designed for the special needs of the user. They are widely available to many outlets, offered through over 15,000 independent home medical equipment providers in North America, Europe, and Australia, and are featured in the U.S. through advertising on television offering power chairs to increase mobility around the home.

Invacare’s custom manual wheelchairs are pediatric, performance, and positioning. The pediatric line has non tilt in space and tilt in space design for children who need a wheelchair. The non tilt in space line is a versatile manual line that allows the chair to "grow" with the child. These chairs come with three frame options – curved frame (for responsiveness), square frame (for stability), and extended frame (to allow for growth). The custom performance wheelchairs are available in two varieties of chairs. They are those that are able to fold and those that remain rigid. The folding line of wheelchairs can extend/"grow" and have three options of frames. The rigid line of chairs has a compact, lightweight frame and is made to transport more easily. It is designed specifically for active users who need a strong frame structure.

Invacare offers simple chairs that can be easily collapsed and used by almost anyone. Other manual chairs are specifically designed to allow the back to tilt to make it more comfortable for users who might not necessarily be able to sit up at a 90° angle. Other options for these chairs include features such as rigid seats that can allow the addition of a gel foam cushion for added comfort and support, foot rests that raise to better support limbs that cannot bend, and special drive gears that allow the user to propel the chair forward with only one hand in the event that there is an impairment on one side or the other. There is even the option of being able to purchase a headrest to keep the user’s head upright and not loll backward over the back of the wheelchair.

There are several models of very good power Invacare wheelchairs, as well as electric scooters. These chairs offer such features as the ability to recline, tilt for better spinal support, and elevation of limbs for greater comfort. Depending on what the consumer needs, some come with a combination of all of these features. Other features available include the addition of an adjustable headrest, the ability to place the controls on the right or the left side armrest to take into account for any limitations the user might have, and the inclusion of a seatbelt and "horn" on the chair for added safety when using the chair outside the home. The battery can be charged from household current and can last up to 20 miles of outside use before a recharge is necessary.
